Bryn Mawr College

August 2011-May 2015
Bryn Mawr, PA

As a Spanish major and an environmental studies minor, I took a wide range of classes in the humanities, social sciences, and environmental sciences. My Spanish senior thesis, "La muerte fecunda del indígena: Las ventriloquias del teatro latinoamericano del siglo XIX" / "The Fertile Death of the Indigenous: Ventriloquisms of 19th-Century Latin American Theater," explored how post-independence Latin American nations pushed indigenous communities into a mythicized national past and transformed contemporary audiences into new national citizens through literary analysis of four Latin American plays.

Awards/Honors:
  • Graduated summa cum laude, with honors in Spanish
  • Winner of the European Fellowship: an award granted to a graduating senior based on exceptional grades and faculty nominations
  • Winner of the Janice Bond Award for Excellence in a Foreign Language for my senior thesis, which is a prize granted by Bryn Mawr in recognition of an outstanding senior thesis written in a foreign language.
  • Winner of the Senior Award for Latin American Studies: Awarded by the Pan-American Association of Philadelphia to a nominated student for excellence in Latin American scholarship

Activities
  • Worked as a peer writing tutor in the Bryn Mawr Writing Center for three years. As a writing tutor, I facilitated one-on-one sessions with Bryn Mawr students on writing of all subjects styles. I also worked closely with two individuals each year who required more consistent writing support, and collaborated with them to create personalized lesson plans and goals for the year.
  • Founded, coordinated, and choreographed for Bryn Mawr's Irish dance student group, which grew from 4 people at inception to 20+ by the time I graduated. The club facilitated weekly classes led by a professional teacher and hosted yearly Celtic festivals to showcase student talent. As president, I was responsible for submitting biannual budget proposals to the student government, keeping track of finances, and coordinating the classes, as well as spearheading festival planning each year.
  • Performed in 4 plays with the Bryn Mawr Shakespeare Performance Troupe, and took on leadership roles in teaching acting workshops for new participants.
